🚀 From Patent to Pitch: Join the 2026 Arizona BioChallenge and Build Your Next Startup Idea!

Curious how biomedical discoveries and life-science patents become real-world innovations? Interested in science, entrepreneurship, or technology commercialization? The 2026 Nucleate Arizona BioChallenge is a hands-on opportunity to learn how to evaluate promising technologies, develop them into startup concepts, and pitch them to an audience.

No pre-existing startup idea or entrepreneurship experience is required, just curiosity, creativity, motivation, and an interest in translating scientific discoveries beyond the laboratory.

💡 Participants will join interdisciplinary teams and work with real biomedical and life-science patents provided by our university partner, SkySong Innovations.

During this intensive, in-person, all-day event, each team will receive a step-by-step guidebook to help evaluate its selected technology and transform it into a compelling startup concept and business pitch. Nucleate mentors will be available throughout the day to answer questions, provide feedback, and help teams refine their ideas.

Along the way, participants will gain practical exposure to key elements of early-stage life-science commercialization, including:

• Reading and evaluating patents

• Freedom-to-operate considerations

• Patent licensing

• Market and competitor analysis

• Startup ideation and business-model development

• Building and delivering an effective pitch

By the end of the day, each team will have developed a thoughtful startup concept and will pitch it to a panel of industry professionals, entrepreneurs, and technology-commercialization experts.

🏆 Teams will compete for $3,000 in team-based cash prizes.

Whether your background is in medicine, science, engineering, business, law, or design, the BioChallenge offers a collaborative environment where you can contribute your perspective and gain practical experience in biomedical innovation.

‼️ Who can apply?

Students from any Arizona university are eligible to apply as participants. No prior experience is required. Space is limited, so apply early!

Students and community members who are not eligible or selected to participate are still welcome to attend the virtual workshops and final Pitch Showcase. Additional details and attendance links will be shared closer to the event.
