Hack for Humanity: Taiwan

Build for the people and places around you

On October 17, The AI Collective Taipei is joining Hack for Humanity, a global initiative that brings communities together to build technology for real human needs. For this Taiwan chapter, we’ll focus on local challenges that affect everyday life. From supporting families and caregivers to navigating disasters and protecting the information ecosystem, with the operational help of Major League Hacking, we’ll spend the day turning local problems into practical prototypes.

Whether you’re a developer, designer, researcher, domain expert, student, founder, or simply someone who cares about Taiwan’s future, you’re invited to build with us. You don’t need to arrive with a team or a fully formed idea, we’ll help you find collaborators and a problem worth solving.

The goal is not to build a perfect product in one day. It’s to understand a meaningful problem, create something useful, and leave with a prototype that can continue growing.

Taiwan’s four challenges tracks

1. Reversing the Birthrate Decline

Family Support Systems Taiwan has one of the lowest fertility rates in the world. For many families, the challenge is not simply whether to have children—it’s whether life with children feels manageable. Parents often struggle to find reliable information about childcare subsidies, locate available public preschools, and balance work, caregiving, and family life. How might we make family support easier to discover, understand, and access?

  • Ministry of Health and Welfare childcare subsidy open data

2. Tech for a Super-Aged Society

Long-Term Care Taiwan is entering a super-aged society, with more than 20% of the population expected to be aged 65 or older by 2026. Caregivers are under increasing pressure, while many older adults face isolation, mobility challenges, and difficulty navigating long-term care services. How might technology help older adults live with greater independence—and help caregivers feel less alone?

3. Civic Tech & Fighting Misinformation

Cognitive Resilience Taiwan’s information environment is fast-moving and increasingly complex. Misinformation spreads daily through LINE, social media, and online communities, affecting public trust and civic life. How might we help people assess information, understand public issues, and participate more confidently in society?

4. Climate & Disaster Resilience

Typhoons, Floods & Earthquakes

• Taiwan is highly exposed to typhoons, torrential rain, flooding, and earthquakes. During a crisis, timely and understandable information can save lives. How might we help people prepare before disasters happen and make better decisions when they do?

  • Water Resources Agency flood sensors

  • National Science and Technology Center for Disaster Reduction warning feeds

Build with Lovable

Lovable is the official Taiwan partner for this hackathon. Participants will receive Lovable credits to help turn their ideas into working prototypes quickly. Whether you’re an experienced developer or building your first product, Lovable gives teams a way to move from concept to usable interface and testable idea in a short amount of time. Bring a problem you care about. We’ll help you build a first version.
